Hal Jordan: White Lantern
In my opinion, Brightest Day was alright. Nothing more, nothing less. Much like Flashpoint in that aspect, but I'll write about that some other time. Anyway, it was pretty good. Hal finally DID something that gave him character- he got the White Ring. I have two story ideas going from the point that Sinestro received the ring. The first one- after Hal receives the ring, Sinestro is given the GL ring. When Hal puts the ring on, he stands for a moment, then shoots off into space. About 2 months go by (in real time) with no word of Hal. So, 2 months after his mysterious disappearance, a new book comes out: White Lantern. Hal headlines this book, and it is his adventures purging the universe of the Black Light. He sporadically appears in other comics at times, and comes back to Earth once in a while. This would make him be like he was when he was the Spectre. The second idea is essentially the same, but Sinestro becomes the White Lantern and Hal continues to headline Green Lantern.
Mosaic
John Stewart is a good character. I won't say great, because that would just be lying. The fact is, all he knows is sorrow. He killed this, that, and everything else. However, if any of you didn't know, there was ONE story where he actually did something about it- that story was called Mosaic. Api Alla Apsa (sp?), a Guardian, is depressed and lonely. So, he creates a world with little pieces of other worlds- a mosaic world. Of course, this is bad, because family, etc. So, John Stewart, Hal Jordan, and Guy Gardner go up to Oa and kick his ass into next week. Now, this is where your average comic would end. However, John, showing a great amount of character, saw the world as an opportunity for the separate worlds to coexist. So, he pretty much polices the world and helps it- essentially as a God. Sinestro is even in it, as he tries to manipulate the world for his own evil things. Unfortunately, the series was marked for cancellation at only issue 5. The series has record sales and great fan support, however, DC felt that it didn't meet their "feeling." With the reboot, this is a perfect chance to somehow undo the destruction of the Mosaic world and put John in his rightful place- a GREAT character in a great monthly series.
Blackest Night
In my opinion, Blackest Night ended disappointingly. I don't really care for Nekron, considering he was only in one other story in the 80s, another example of Johns taking someone he read about and forcing them down Green Lantern fans' throats. Now you're probably thinking, "Hey Drew, you asshole, you think you can do better?" Well.... No. But, I do have an idea that I personally like better. Now, I don't know about any of you, but I LOVE Black Hand. I think he's really cool, and Mattel's Black Hand figure is really great, (Check that out if you collect.) He is obsessed with death. He killed his pet, his parents, and later, himself to become the first Black Lantern. Now, this is where I think the story could have some potential. After this in the actual comics, Nekron was revealed after the Black Lantern was charged, and people were confused because of this. Anyway, that was all well and good, but I think this would have been better: The lantern is charged, and Black Hand prepares for his master to rise- but he doesn't. Hand has no idea what is happening. Suddenly, his body contorts, creating one of a few things- either a Hal Parallax-like armored Black Hand, a full on monster of some sort, or my personal favorite- the Black light's embodiment. I think this would have made Black Hand a more prominent character in Green Lantern mythology, and it wouldn't have brought back a pretty much random character from the 80s. Granted, Nekron's redesign is pretty bad ass.
Geoff Johns
So, what's with Geoff Johns? People always either hate him or love him, and I for one feel both. I like Johns because of his early writings of Hal. I also loved Blackest Night, among other things. However, if Johns had his way, my favorite GL, Kyle Rayner, would not exist. He only likes to write about Silver Age characters, such as Barry and Hal. Don't get me wrong, the characters are fine, but Wally is better than Barry and Kyle is better than Hal. Not that their characters are better, but they're generally written better. Johns now writes his characters without emotion, which really sucks, since he HAD a lot of talent. What do you guys think?
